ANYC 2009 - BeatIt Throw Down

Postby yoboy » Wed Feb 04, 2009 8:43 am

I propose we add another fun event to the schedule for the Australian National YoYo Championships called
The BeatIt Throw Down.
I saw this happen first hand during APs in Singapore and looks like a lot of fun.
Anyone can enter but it needs many teams of 2 (one 1A player and one Y player)
Two teams battle to music played by the DJ or Beatboxer.
Winner goes through....

Forget the tricky knots you can make... you need some rhythm, boy!

More info to follow...

Trying to finalise the Schedule...
Are you guys keen to have some fun doing the Beat-It Throwdown...?

So to put it simply….

Drop the technicality. Who cares if you can pull off a long combo? Know your basics well? Got that rhythm in you? So listen up, you don’t need a mind-blowing 3 min routine to be a champ in this one.The only way to win is to integrate your skills with the groovy tunes spun live by guest DJs and Beatboxers

Bottom line… Skill , Style and Impress!

Contest Details

-KO Style Format

-A coin toss will decide on who goes first

-Each team will be given 4 counts of 8 beats per attempt

-Only one throw allowed for each attempt (reason being, if we allowed unlimited throws, it will be just like 1min freestyles)
*for 2A: Unlimited reps, only one catch allowed
*re-generations are allowed

-Turn ends when given counts of beats played by DJ ends or a mess up in the tricks.
*mess up: string tangles or dead yoyos

- Amount of participants
*Each team consists of 2 members.
*Each member to do one specific style of play (1A, 2A, 4A, 5A)

- Judging panel will comprise of 3 judges (of my choice  )

-Judges will be given score cards from 1 - 5 points. Points are given purely on how the performer impress the judges based on integration of tricks with the music played by the DJ.

-Each round of players may feature a different genre of tunes or a different b.p.m. song to be spun by the DJs.

-Scores will be flashed by the judges at the end of each attempt

-Winner will be determined by the total score of adding both members scores together.

Do you want to do it...?

none that I can find, but its basically just yoyo to/with the music. as stu said, not the hardest tricks with the most string hits wins, its all about the rhythm and flow. At AP's the more successful ones did stuff like bonigyboingy etc as there easier to match to the music and stuff.

Not wanting to sound negative (though hating is my chosen field of expertise), but it might be reaching a little far with this particular contest idea. I don't think we'll have the numbers to fill a decent field.

Personally I'll be saving all my rhythmic moves for my freestyle. I know you all can't wait for more sloppy as breaking moves.
