AODA yoyos.

Postby Metabolis » Sat Dec 03, 2011 3:57 pm

Greets y'all.

While I was down at the local shopping centre (same place I bought the cheap yoyos I posted recently), I noted in "the cube shop" they had a display of metal yoyos.

All seemingly manufactured by AODA. I've never heard of them, but they all look to be bootlegs of a variety of yoyos. I picked one up the "Rainbow Tournament Version" for $40. It appears to be a clone of the YYF 888 with hubstacks.

Anyone have any word on these yoyos?

They seem solid. The one I bought plays well, the one I tried in the store was nice also.

AODA did produce many 'fake'/'bootleg' products in early yoyoing development in China. For those yoyos e.g. Rainbow they are design copied from other factories. In fact, if u have seen a yoyo called 'sunshine' it's more like a fake 888 than any other yoyos.
But all those yoyos were 'designed' and produced be4 2009. Now they do original design, for instance, the YYF superwide, was by the same person Chen Jia Lin, but the aoda wide yoyo was produced before that when Chen was still in Aoda and that opens a new 'brand' for the whole yoyoing world. :D

I think I remember Stu carrying one of those bootleg 888's. He put jimmy hats on it and let people play with it and they all thought it was a regular 888.

I reckon Granny Kool probably supplied these Aoda yoyos since they are based in Brisbane as well.
Interesting to see these finally pop up somewhere though,.
Small ya later!

Yeah, this Rainbow also came with additional 'jimmy hat' like hubstacks also.

40 is pretty steep... they are a few years old (they have changed the packaging a few times since then). Someone has just gone to the wholesale markets and brought in a bunch of left overs. There have been 2 promotions in China since then so expect more surplus stock for a few more years.
